Frequent Diarrhea and Fatigue
My name is Joann J. I suffered from Irritable bowel syndrome off and on for many years, but a year ago the symptoms became acute. Everything I ate passed straight through my system so that I was no longer getting nutrition from the food that I ate.
I tried taking Imodium and diphenoxlated atropine to control the diarrhea, but found it nearly impossible to leave my home as I needed to be near a restroom at all times. My health was failing because of a lack of nutrition and I felt exhausted and weak.
Western medicine offered temporary help but no solution to my problem. I knew I needed a preventative approach so I decided to try acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to get help. When I came to Abundance Acupuncture I was encouraged to learn that their approach was to treat the whole body so it works in harmony with all body parts. I was hopeful!
Long held body habits take patience and time to reverse, but I began to notice significant improvements after eight treatments. In addition to acupuncture treatments I was prescribed herbs to assist my recovery. I was also instructed in proper nutrition and I changed the kinds of food I ate for healthier choices.
I am now very much improved. My diarrhea is 100% better controlled. I feel more energetic and hopeful and I have a whole new start in life. I am so grateful for the treatments and for the care and concern the staff showed throughout my treatments.
IBS and Chronic Diarrhea
My name is Donna C. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in June 2009 because I had been suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome and chronic diarrhea for over nine years. I had severe, explosive bouts of diarrhea that were sometimes preceded by severe, painful abdominal cramping, but often came with no warning at all. This made it difficult for me to sleep and left me feeling fatigued, irritable, depressed, and hopeless. It was not easy for me to take part in normal activities like going out to eat, go on trips, or take part in family gatherings without a lot of anxiety.
I tried taking digestive enzymes, went to see a gastroenterologist, and even worked with a chiropractor, but nothing helped. I needed to take large doses of Imodium just to try to function daily. I began to feel significant improvements in my condition after thirty five treatments at Abundance Acupuncture. At this point in time my condition feels 90 % better. I now feel less anxiety and much more positive. I am able to plan, for the first time in a long time, for vacations or trips where I stay overnight and eat out because the diarrhea is not interrupting my day. I am also sleeping and eating much better.
During the treatments I felt peaceful and was grateful to have this time available to me. The clinic is warm and inviting and the staff is kind and caring. I would recommend acupuncture to anyone because we all have some physical problems. I have never tolerated medications well with my condition. This natural healing was my last chance, and it has been a blessing in my life.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
My name is Phyllis E. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in January, 2008 because I was suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and anxiety attacks. I had a lot of urgent bowel movements and intestinal pain which caused me to feel anxiety anytime I was away from a bathroom. I had this problem for more than 25 years. It started with a few IBS attacks per year and got progressively worse as time went on to end up at three times per week. As the IBS attacks became more and more frequent I became more anxious and fretful.
It also made it difficult for me to sleep and caused me to feel irritable, depressed, and embarrassed. I had a lot of pain and fear of loosing control of my bowels. After an attack I felt weak and dehydrated. It made it difficult for me to make long range plans because I couldn't go any where without thinking about bathroom availability in groups or crowds, with distances, and while traveling in a car, etc.
I tried medications such as Zoloft and three different digestive drugs to resolve this and they seemed to help at first and then lost potency as I continued to take them which required increasing doses to have the same effect. I began to feel some improvements in my condition after three treatments at Abundance Acupuncture. I started sleeping better and woke up with less anxiety. At this point in time my condition feels 80% better. I now feel like I can make more plans (especially traveling) and I am able to sleep better and I live with a lot less pain. My overall energy level has also increased. I have also had significant improvement in other symptoms like joint aches, especially in my knees and lower back. During the treatments I felt calm and relaxed. The clinic is great and the staff is very kind and helpful.
I was skeptical at first after being accustomed to Western medicine (treat the symptom, but not the source). Acupuncture has changed my way of thinking in regard to treating the source of the problem to improve the whole body. I would recommend acupuncture to anyone in pain because a person can find relief without any harmful side effects.
My name is Donna H. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in March, 2008, because I had chronic diarrhea every day and night for five months. Everything I ate or drank just went right through me and I had eight or ten bowel movements everyday. Eventually I had to go on a liquid diet just to get enough water to keep from being dehydrated. Even then, I needed to go to the emergency room twice to get intravenous fluids because my body could not retain any liquids.
The diarrhea interrupted my sleep, and made me feel fatigued, depressed, irritable, hopeless, and embarrassed. Because the diarrhea was sudden and totally unpredictable I could not get out of the house to do anything except to go to doctors appointments. I had to wear diapers even in my own house. My doctors tried eight diarrhea medications: Lonox, Loperamide, Glycolax, Cholestyramine, Flagyl, PangEfpyme, Helidac, and Vancocin, but the side effects only made me feel sicker. I had two colonoscopies which did not reveal anything significant and even tried acupuncture treatments from a different acupuncturist, but did not notice any changes.
I began to feel some improvements in my condition after the first treatment from Abundance Acupuncture. Two days later, after one more acupuncture treatment and six cups of prescribed Chinese herbal tea, the diarrhea was gone. At this point in time my condition feels 100% better. I now have regular bowel movements and I am able eat anything I want, leave the house, and not wear any diapers. I also feel much more energetic, have less fatigue, and have finally been able to clean my house.
During the treatments I felt very relaxed and drifted off. I would recommend acupuncture to everyone. I just wish I had gone to Abundance Acupuncture sooner and not had to suffer so long.
Mastitis and Colitis
My name is Carla R. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in February 2009 because I was suffering from chronic mastitis and colitis. The mastitis started with breast pain in 2001 but was not properly diagnosed until 2008 by which time an infected abscess had developed in my breast. I had a partial mastectomy in April 2008 but it refused to heal. I had another surgery, and at one point the infection spread to the other breast. In December of 2008 I had yet another surgery. When I came to Abundance Acupuncture in February 2009 the incision had still not healed, it was painful to change the dressing, and I had to deal with the drainage every day.
After the last surgery I also had a flare up of colitis which had not bothered me for the last 10 years. I had urgent diarrhea with bright red bloody stools and as many as 17 bowel movements per day with nausea and vomiting. Fevers, chills, and sweats interrupted my sleep and left me feeling anxious and exhausted. It was difficult to do simple household chores and carrying a load of laundry up stairs made me feel short of breath. My doctors said that if my chest didn't heal they might have to remove both breasts.
After my first treatment at Abundance Acupuncture the chest pain was GONE for two days. After the next few treatments my stomach pain was gone and I was able to eat solid foods without triggering the diarrhea. After the fifth treatment my stomach felt better than it had in months. The incision began to heal and three weeks later it had closed so I was able to take a shower again. At this point in time my condition feels 95 to 100% better. I now feel back to normal and I am able to go horse back riding and participate in any activity I like.
I have also had other significant improvements like my skin is not so dry, my allergies have not bothered me this spring like they have in the past, and I have even lost 10 pounds! Everyone at the clinic is very nice and I can't say enough good about the treatment I've received.
Digestive Disturbances and Motion Sickness
My name is Carol K. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in December 2009 because I had suffered from severe digestive disturbances for 42 years. These episodes lasted 30-90 minutes and started with a dull ache behind my breast bone that felt like an internal blockage. This ache intensified and caused terrible pain, forceful vomiting, and diarrhea which were all accompanied by profuse sweating and uncontrollable body trembling. These incidents made it difficult for me to go out to eat with my friends and husband without anxiety that I might get sick and be embarrassed because I had to leave the meal.
During the last year I have also had problems with motion sickness whenever I was driving in a car or going to higher altitudes. My motion sickness became an even bigger problem when we purchased a large SUV. We had planned a road trip to the West Coast for January and February and I was concerned about if I would be able to enjoy the trip, especially the high passes in the Rocky Mountains which had been a major problem in the past.
To help my digestion I tried Zypan and Ginger Root which were somewhat helpful but not always dependable. I began to feel some improvements in my condition after that first treatment at Abundance Acupuncture and I have not had any digestive incidents since my first treatment. At this point in time my condition feels 100% better. I now feel “safe” that my digestive problems are in my past and I am able to go out to eat and enjoy a relaxing meal when ever I want.
My motion sickness is also a thing of the past. I took several smaller trips with no motion sickness before we embarked on our trip out to the West Coast. I thoroughly enjoyed the venture because I was able to look around at the scenery (not possible before), read maps, and even a book!! The 10,000 foot altitude did not pose a problem either!
Acupuncture has also given me significant relief from sciatic pain which bothered me after an extended airplane trip.
During the treatments I felt a peaceful, relaxing sensation and after each treatment I felt a renewed sense of calm. The clinic is clean, has a relaxing atmosphere, and the staff is friendly, kind, and helpful. I recommend acupuncture to anyone for any condition because I’m a firm believer in helping the body heal itself through NATURAL venues, by correcting the problem, rather than through the use of medications that may have serious side effects.
Thank you! Carol K.
Diverticulosis and Tobacco Cessation
My name is William C. and I came to Abundance Acupuncture in July, 2006 after I was diagnosed by my primary care physician as having diverticulitis.
As it was explained to me by my doctor, diverticulitis is the infection of small pockets or protrusions in the intestine which is the medical condition called diverticulosis. I believe my doctor would have a hard time determining when the diverticulosis manifested itself in my digestive tract; however it was readily apparent when the symptoms of diverticulitis occurred. The symptoms that I had were a throbbing, sharp pain in my lower left abdomen that would come and go; sometimes the pain was almost enough to make me stop me in my tracks while walking. This pain would subside and then I was fine for a while.
The pain continued to occur and thinking it might be serious, I saw my physician as soon as I could. He scheduled a CT scan and when the imagery of my abdomen was available, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis/diverticulosis. I was prescribed two weeks of some pretty heavy duty antibiotics and told by my physician that if symptoms persisted beyond that period, I would be prescribed antibiotics for another two week period. I was also given a dietary guideline by my doctor and told that my condition would be with me for the rest of my life.
When I left my doctor’s office with that prescription, I already knew that I would seek out the help of Abundance Acupuncture with my condition because of a referral to them by someone who was very familiar with Abundance and their success in acupuncture treatment.
My treatment at Abundance started with a diagnosis by David Milbradt and he soon had me on a treatment plan. Although I was slightly apprehensive at first, David and staff soon made me feel at home. The first treatment was interesting and although getting “needled” seemed intimidating at first, it turned out to be a pleasant experience. I had immediate results from my treatments and I was also advised on a better dietary course of action by David. From the first day of treatment until now, I have not had a significant return of diverticulitis symptoms and within reason I eat what I want. I have only made simple changes to my diet, such as including more fiber to assist my digestive tract in performing naturally.
In addition, while being treated for diverticulitis, I wanted to quit a 13 year habit of chewing tobacco. Because I had a strong will to quit and was unable to take the full tobacco cessation program because of career time constraints, David worked out a “short course” plan for me that ran concurrent to my weekly treatments for diverticulitis. It took extra will power on my part to do it this way, but the acupuncture assistance was far superior to any cessation method I had tried previously. I believe that the short course worked well for me and have been chewing tobacco free for over a year. However, I highly recommend that someone who is determined to quit tobacco take advantage of a complete cessation counseling and treatment plan at Abundance Acupuncture to ensure their success.
Urgent Diarrhea and Gall Bladder Problems
My name is Terri H. I first came to Abundance Acupuncture in 1991 because I was suffering from digestive problems which caused me to have urgent diarrhea after eating fried foods or salads at any restaurant. I also had occasional periods of hypersalivation, stabbing pain in my right shoulder blade, and rounds of severe heartburn with continuous bloating and belching.
These symptoms interrupted my sleep and made it very uncomfortable for me to work. It was painful, frustrating, and the diarrhea was so exhausting that I would have to lie down whether I wanted to or not. I tried to ignore this, but it didn’t go away, and was actually getting worse every fall. I didn’t know it at the time but David Milbradt told me that all of these symptoms were directly related to problems with my Gall Bladder.
I felt better after the first treatment. After a few moths of treatments and taking herbal supplements everything was fine as long as I watched what I ate. At this point I feel 100% better. I am now able to eat whatever I like with out suffering for it.
Even more important than that is the fact that I still have my Gall Bladder. My mother had Gall Bladder surgery because of similar problems and she continued to have the heartburn and other digestive problems even after the surgery. I’m certain that, if I hadn’t found Abundance Acupuncture in time, I would have ended up having my Gall Bladder removed by now. I’m really glad I didn’t wait until things got so bad that surgery was my only answer.
Severe Back and IBS
My name is Sonia. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in August 2009 because I was suffering from severe leg and hip pain and irritable bowel syndrome. I had the back and hip pain for 40 years but, it had become severe in the last 6 weeks. The pain was so bad it immobilized me and I couldn’t stand up for more than 5 minutes. Walking was painful and I couldn’t go as far as one block. It was difficult for me to partake in normal day to day activities and I felt hopeless and embarrassed.
I utilized physical therapy in conjunction with the acupuncture treatments and I began to feel significant improvements in my condition after five treatments at Abundance Acupuncture. At this point in time my condition feels 100% better. I am now able to stand, walk, and exercise. I have also had significant improvement in my digestive and bowel problems.
During the treatments I felt more in control of my health. The clinic is warm and welcoming and the staff is professional, competent, and friendly. I would recommend acupuncture to anyone wanting non-traditional Eastern treatments in addition to other Western medical help because it doesn’t involve taking more drugs.
Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, and IBS
I hope this anonymous testimonial will help someone who is suffering problems similar to mine to find a solution though acupuncture. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in November 2007 because I was suffering from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and asthma. I have had asthma for my whole life, fibromyalgia for 10 years, and chronic fatigue for over 5 years. The chronic fatigue was awful…I just wanted to sleep all the time and the fibromyalgia pain bothered me every day. The IBS caused be to be constipated, sometimes skipping bowel movements for several days, and then every month before my periods I would have diarrhea. At times it was difficult for me to sleep, I was grouchy with my kids and husband because I was so fatigued, and all of this left me feeling hopeless and depressed.
I tried medications such as Nortriptyline, physical therapy, and chiropractic. Although the chiropractic gave me temporary relief from the pain nothing helped with the chronic fatigue.
I began to feel some improvements in my condition after the first treatment at Abundance Acupuncture. At this point in time my fibromyalgia and IBS feel 100% better. Even the chronic fatigue is 80 to 90% better. I have also had significant improvement in other symptoms like: no more PMS and 95% improvement with my asthma. Acupuncture also helped me overcome the grief I felt after a miscarriage.
During the treatments I deeply relaxed. The clinic is warm and the staff is friendly and professional. I would recommend acupuncture to everyone because it helps everything. Thank you!

“Calm Stomach” T-pills
My name is Ann L. I came to Abundance Acupuncture because I was suffering from indigestion. On my recent trip to Israel I became very sick to my stomach. I took some of the “calm stomach” tea pills that Dr. Shari had given to me at my last acupuncture appointment and in 10-15 minutes I felt a calmness and my stomach felt fine.
On my trip many on our tour group came down with a wicked traveler’s diarrhea and took Imodium, Pepto-Bismol, and antibiotics like ciprofloxacin which had little or no effect at all. Many of them felt wiped out by the diarrhea and some of them had the dry heaves.
I approached them a little apprehensively with my “Calm Stomach” t-pills to see if I would get a positive response. Those who tried them were greatly appreciated the relief they got from taking them. I will always keep them on hand for travel or home use. It’s awesome stuff!
