The Easiest Way to Quit Smoking
My name is Jim B. I came to Abundance Acupuncture in July 2009 because I wanted to quit smoking. I had been smoking for 40 years and had tried many times to quit. Smoking made me feel fatigued, irritable, depressed, and embarrassed. Because public smoking is unacceptable for me it was difficult to have a smoke and enjoy it.
I tried quitting cold turkey and tried medications like the patch but I never made it for very long. I felt a significant reduction in cravings after my first treatment and that continued throughout the whole process. I was able to quit smoking cigarettes completely and it was easier than any of the other times that I had tried. I now feel successful about quitting and find that I can more thoroughly enjoy my food and drink. My sinuses are clearing up and I am no longer coughing like I was when I was smoking.
During the treatments I felt relaxed and relieved from the cravings. The clinic is patient oriented and the staff is wonderful. I would recommend acupuncture to all smokers because it has made a big contribution to my health.
I QUIT SMOKING!
My name is Karen L. I came to Abundance Acupuncture on October 4, 2006 because I wanted to try something to quit smoking. I had smoked for 35 year and was smoking about 30-45 cigarettes a day. I had tried to quit back in the 80’s a couple of times and each time I started up again the habit got heavier. I felt like a failure because it was so hard to keep from smoking even though I used all of my willpower.
I had to do something. The first cigarette in the morning zapped all of my energy, made me feel drained and tired like I wanted to go back to bed. I lit up almost every 10 -20 minutes and could hardly wait for break time at work so I could satisfy the strong nicotine withdrawal urges and lessen my irritability. My yellow teeth and nails were embarrassing and the smell of my hair, clothes, car, and house embarrassed me as well. I also hated subjecting others to second hand smoke.
I had tried switching to other brands, cutting back, relaxation tapes, group and individual hypnosis, and quitting cold turkey with out success. On October 4th I had two treatments (A.M. & P.M.) with Joel and managed to go 5 hours without a smoke. I was able get by minute to minute and hour to hour by hanging on to the thought of my next acupuncture treatment. During the treatment I felt “plugged in” to a world of much less tension. I was able to achieve a lasting sense of relaxation and my goal of becoming a non-smoker was re-enforced by the acupuncturist and the staff at the clinic. I was able to be smoke free for three weeks but found that I had set myself up to fail again. Nine months later I came back to acupuncture because I knew it had worked for me before. This time I tried extras like an 800# to a help line, I put candles where my ash trays had been, and spent some time alone with relaxing music. Jonah made an herbal formula to assists my lungs and to reduce the cravings of nicotine. Dr. David Milbradt helped me to realize that I did not want to disappoint myself with failing again. I am now a non-smoker for almost one year!! Hurray!!
I have also noticed less phlegm, much reduced coughing especially in the morning. I have less sinus & allergy stuffiness and congestion. I don’t even need to take medications for these symptoms anymore.
The clinic has a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere with calming herbals teas. The staff is welcoming and concerned with your health issues and Margo and Sheri inspire you to get started with acupuncture. If you are a long time smoker suffering with the entrapment of nicotine addiction and are sick & tired of feeling sick & tired why not try acupuncture? If you are willing to get started on your path to natural healing and continued wellness, acupuncture can help you to help yourself become a non-smoker. Freedom from nicotine addiction awaits you with the help of this clinic and its staff.
Diverticulosis and Tobacco Cessation
My name is William C. and I came to Abundance Acupuncture in July, 2006 after I was diagnosed by my primary care physician as having diverticulitis.
As it was explained to me by my doctor, diverticulitis is the infection of small pockets or protrusions in the intestine which is the medical condition called diverticulosis. I believe my doctor would have a hard time determining when the diverticulosis manifested itself in my digestive tract; however it was readily apparent when the symptoms of diverticulitis occurred. The symptoms that I had were a throbbing, sharp pain in my lower left abdomen that would come and go; sometimes the pain was almost enough to make me stop me in my tracks while walking. This pain would subside and then I was fine for a while.
The pain continued to occur and thinking it might be serious, I saw my physician as soon as I could. He scheduled a CT scan and when the imagery of my abdomen was available, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis/diverticulosis. I was prescribed two weeks of some pretty heavy duty antibiotics and told by my physician that if symptoms persisted beyond that period, I would be prescribed antibiotics for another two week period. I was also given a dietary guideline by my doctor and told that my condition would be with me for the rest of my life.
When I left my doctor’s office with that prescription, I already knew that I would seek out the help of Abundance Acupuncture with my condition because of a referral to them by someone who was very familiar with Abundance and their success in acupuncture treatment.
My treatment at Abundance started with a diagnosis by David Milbradt and he soon had me on a treatment plan. Although I was slightly apprehensive at first, David and staff soon made me feel at home. The first treatment was interesting and although getting “needled” seemed intimidating at first, it turned out to be a pleasant experience. I had immediate results from my treatments and I was also advised on a better dietary course of action by David. From the first day of treatment until now, I have not had a significant return of diverticulitis symptoms and within reason I eat what I want. I have only made simple changes to my diet, such as including more fiber to assist my digestive tract in performing naturally.
In addition, while being treated for diverticulitis, I wanted to quit a 13 year habit of chewing tobacco. Because I had a strong will to quit and was unable to take the full tobacco cessation program because of career time constraints, David worked out a “short course” plan for me that ran concurrent to my weekly treatments for diverticulitis. It took extra will power on my part to do it this way, but the acupuncture assistance was far superior to any cessation method I had tried previously. I believe that the short course worked well for me and have been chewing tobacco free for over a year. However, I highly recommend that someone who is determined to quit tobacco take advantage of a complete cessation counseling and treatment plan at Abundance Acupuncture to ensure their success.
